Our Story

L2D – Labs2Design is a specialist laboratory design company focussed on the delivery of dynamic and sustainable scientific workplaces for research and learning + teaching.

Our expertise lies in providing innovative operational solutions to the ever-changing demands of science while managing the difficulties of increasingly shrinking funding sources.

L2D’s extensive experience includes designing research environments for virtually every type of laboratory from high-end technology to biocontainment and the full range of controlled environments to support science from discovery to commercialisation. Science offers designers opportunities to work collaboratively with clients to express and display these unique technologies and inspire future generations to pursue the creative art of discovery.

The range of discovery includes laboratories for biology, chemistry, structural biology (900 NMR and cryo-microscopy), cGMP human applications and all associated containment compliance for medical, animal and plant science to PC/QC 1, 2, 3 and 4 risk pathogen groups.

L2D has developed an enviable capability in plant research as well as greenhouse construction to support the science that is focussed on addressing the world’s food supply challenges and managing disease. We are also experts in the design of facilities for BioResources – ranging from rodents to large ruminants and to the highest levels of biological and quarantine containment.

L2D provides assistance to research organisations such as the CSIRO, universities and medical institutes to develop business cases, feasibility studies and design concepts for building projects to improve the accuracy of information leading to improved funding models and approvals through the governance processes. Our focussed direction continues through all stages of project delivery from design documentation to construction support for new projects.

We also collaborate with other industry partners and design professionals such as architects, engineers, project managers, quantity surveyors and building contractors who wish to deliver state-of-the-art scientific workplace environments.
