Vasculab is the first state-of-the-art angiography education and research facility in Australia. Vasculab specialises in Angiography, Physician Training, Medical Devices, Research and Development with its vision to promote excellence in education, research and development for medtech in Australia. L2D were commissioned to develop the design for this world-class, purpose-built facility, including 4 angiography suites and modern conference capabilities for up to 30 people.
The facility is located on Level 6 of the existing Howard Florey (Building 184) on the University of Melbourne Campus – fronting to Royal Parade.
L2D were the principal consultant with sub-consultants, Rimmington Hydraulic and Erbas for mechanical and electrical engineering. Johnstaff are the appointed Construction Manager responsible for the delivery of the project.
There was a six-month delivery time programme, and the project commenced on 12th June 2015 and reached practical completion before Christmas 2015. The L2D team were directed that “speed was of the essence” and the optimistic programme for the project was delivered on time.
The key pieces of the information puzzle were identified early;
- Medium sized BioResources
- Appropriate approach to cage handling and technologies
- The number of Angio Suites and the key “non-negotiable” spaces and areas.
- The discussions were focused on understanding the proposed operations, and any limitations in the existing conditions and available area – all to a tight budget and programme.
Andrew Kings, Board member of Vasculab, offered this comment in relation to L2D ….”a sincere thank you and your team on delivering on time and on budget….as we know this rarely occurs, especially in a refit in an old building. A credit to everyone’s focus and hard work. In fact everything went so well I fear the client thinks it is normal !”
